Injury SOS

Don't let an unexpected injury leave you guessing. Injury SOS at Physio Strong Albany provides prompt assessment and professional management of acute injuries, helping you understand your symptoms, manage early discomfort, and plan your next steps towards recovery.

Why Use Injury SOS?

Injuries don't always happen at convenient times, and knowing what to do next can be confusing.

Our Injury SOS service provides prompt, professional assessment and management of acute injuries by our qualified physiotherapists.

Whether you've rolled your ankle at sport, strained a muscle at the gym, or experienced a sudden injury at work or home, we're here to help you understand what's happened and what to do next.

Located within our dedicated Injury Hub at Physio Strong Albany, Injury SOS is designed to make accessing injury assessment, advice and early management easier, without having to wait for a routine physiotherapy appointment.

Benefits of Injury SOS

Our Injury SOS consultations can help with:

  • Prompt assessment of new or acute injuries
  • Understanding the nature and severity of your injury
  • Managing pain, swelling and early symptoms
  • Advice on what to do (and what to avoid) in the first few days
  • Access to injury supports such as braces, moon boots, slings and crutches
  • Guidance on whether further medical assessment or imaging may be required
  • Developing a clear plan for recovery and returning to activity

Our goal is to help you get the right advice early, avoid unnecessary delays and feel confident about your next steps.

What to Expect

During your Injury SOS consultation, one of our physiotherapists will assess your injury, discuss your symptoms and help determine the most appropriate management plan.

Depending on your injury, your appointment may include:

  • Injury assessment – identifying the likely structures involved and assessing the severity of your injury
  • Immediate management – advice and treatment to help manage pain, swelling and movement
  • Injury supports – access to braces, moon boots, crutches, slings or taping where appropriate
  • Recovery advice – guidance on activity modification, exercises and safe return to movement
  • Further referral – recommendations for GP review, imaging or specialist assessment if required
  • Follow-up planning – establishing the next steps for rehabilitation and recovery

Our Injury Hub also provides access to recovery equipment, including the Game Ready Med4 Elite, which may be recommended as part of your injury management.

Who Can Use Injury SOS?

Injury SOS is suitable for people experiencing recent injuries, including:

  • Sporting injuries such as sprains, strains and suspected ligament injuries
  • Rolled ankles and other joint injuries
  • Muscle tears or sudden muscle pain
  • Injuries sustained at the gym or during exercise
  • Minor falls, knocks or impact injuries
  • Recent injuries at work, home or during everyday activities
  • Anyone unsure how to manage a new musculoskeletal injury

Please note: Injury SOS is a physiotherapist-led service, not an emergency department or GP clinic. Serious injuries, suspected fractures requiring urgent care, significant head injuries, major trauma or other medical emergencies should be assessed through an appropriate urgent care or emergency service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our services? Here are answers to some of the most common ones to help you get started with confidence.
Do I need a referral to book an Injury SOS appointment?

No. You can book directly with our physiotherapists without a GP referral.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We aim to make Injury SOS appointments easier to access, with dedicated appointment availability for acute injuries on Monday and Thursday afternoons.

Do I need to get imaging before my appointment?

No. Our physiotherapists can assess your injury and determine whether further imaging, such as an X-ray, ultrasound or MRI, may be required. If imaging is recommended, we'll help guide you through the next steps and develop a plan for accessing the appropriate imaging.

Can I get crutches, a moon boot or a brace during my appointment?

Yes. Our Injury Hub stocks a range of injury supports, including crutches, moon boots, braces and slings. Your physiotherapist can help determine whether these are appropriate for your injury. Equipment purchases or hire may involve an additional cost.

What if my injury needs further treatment?

If ongoing rehabilitation is required, we can arrange follow-up physiotherapy appointments and develop a plan to help you safely return to work, sport or your usual activities.
